Caroline's assistant and a struggling artist. Always uptight and depressed, because his career as painter is going nowhere and constantly complains that he has to work for Caroline far beneath his skills. Richard was in love with Caroline almost from the moment he met her, even though they were from two different worlds - he was constantly gloomy and cynical, while she was bubbly and friendly.

For a while it looked like Caroline and Richard should end up married, at some point they were close, but at the last moment they found a difference in their character they could not just overlook. Unfortunately the Caroline in the City sitcom was cancelled and their story left on cliffhanger.
